A miniature olla (vessel) featuring our namesake roadrunner and attributed to Theodora Galvan Shije (1899 - 1999). This traditional Zia olla of diminutive size features two roadrunners, two flowers, and a well-decorated rim.

Zia pottery is similar in style to Acoma pottery except that Zia pottery tends to be heavier and thicker than Acoma which is more often thin-walled. The durability of Zia pottery accounts for the number of surviving pieces.

When tourists began visiting the Zia and other Native American pueblos at the turn of the 19th century, artisans began making smaller pieces such as this example that were easier for travelers to bring home with them. This is a great little piece that would fit into the last bit of space in your curio cabinet.

Size: 3.25" H x 3" W

Condition: Intact and excellent as often seen with Zia pottery. Minor wear to the white slip. Flat base signed "Theodora Galvan" which could be Theodora Galvan Shije, noted 20th century Zia potter.

Provenance: private Colorado, USA collection
